The department of internal medicine at KRH is made of five Functional Units: Inpatients unit, Outpatients unit, NCDs clinic, ARVs service and Mental health unit. The mission of the department is to strive to be a centre of excellence in medical service delivery, medical education and research in the Est Province. We aim to be attentive to the needs of our patients. We focus on educating our patients for disease prevention and health promotion.

Otorhinolaryngology Department (ENT)
Overview
The specialty of Otolaryngology is one of the new departments of Kibungo Referral Hospital, it started since November 2019. It is a diverse clinical discipline that deals with disorders involving the Head & Neck region, primarily diseases afflicting the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT). The ENT department was started in close collaboration with Heron foundation, which is providing material support as well as scientifically support.
The ENT surgeon is a doctor who specializes in evaluating and treating patients with ear, nose (including sinuses) and throat (including voice and speech) disorders. In addition, they also manage patients with head and neck cancers as well as surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea.
Head & Neck Surgery
Surgical treatment of head and neck tumours. These include surgery for benign and malignant diseases of salivary glands, thyroid and parathyroid glands, tumours of the oral cavity, nasopharynx, oropharynx and larynx (throat) and neck lymph nodes. We adopt a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with other related specialties to provide comprehensive patient care for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers.
Otology (Ear)
We offer medical treatment of acute and chronic ear infections ( acute otitis media, chronic suppuraative otitis media) . For ear conditions needing surgery we transfer patients were there are adequate facilities, while we are still building our capacity to manage such conditions.
Rhinology and Paranasal Sinuses (Nose)
We provide clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with nasal diseases.
Laryngology and Speech
Evaluation and treatment of voice and speech disorders, including video laryngosopy.
Pediatric Otolaryngology (Children)
We evaluate and provide medical treatment of children with Ear, nose and throat condition. The main pediatric surgery provided is adenotonsillectomy.
Audiology (Hearing and Vertigo)
The audiological services provide essential support to doctors in the evaluation and management of patients with hearing loss, vertigo and balancing problems (due to vestibular dysfunction).
We assess hearing loss in adult, where audiometry and tympanometry are provided. Currently we do not perform hearing loss in children except tympanometry.
In General the department is organized into 3 main parts:
Out Patient Department (OPD).
We run the outpatient consultation on 2 days in a week, Thursday and Friday, starting from 8 : 00 AM – 5 :00 PM.
Admission ward
The main admission ward for ENT is surgery admission ward .. We make also regular follow-up admitted patients with ENT problems on other comorbidities around hospital. There is a 24hours call for emergencies and admitted patients for 7days.
Operating Theater
The major ENT surgeries either emergencies or electives are performed in main theater. We have 1 room per week (Monday ).
