Internal medicine department

The department of internal medicine at KRH is made of five Functional Units: Inpatients unit, Outpatients unit, NCDs clinic, ARVs service and Mental health unit. The mission of the department is to strive to be a centre of excellence in medical service delivery, medical education and research in the Est Province. We aim to be attentive to the needs of our patients. We focus on educating our patients for disease prevention and health promotion.

Internal medicine unit

Inpatient unit:

We offer inpatient care to patients who are admitted with different diseases; our inpatient service works 24/7. We have wards for men and women. We treat conditions of different specialties including infectious diseases, cardiac conditions (heart ultrasound and ECG), neurological conditions, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes mellitus and metabolic diseases, hematological conditions, rheumatologic diseases and diseases of kidneys.

 Outpatient service:

We receive ambulatory patients with different medical conditions from Monday to Friday, from 7:30AM to 5:00PM.

NCDs clinic:

We offer follow up to patients with chronic non-communicable diseases including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, renal disease. NCDs clinic works from Monday to Friday, 7:30AM to 5:00pm. We mentor NCDs clinics in health centers

ARVs clinic:

We focus on prevention and treatment of HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. We mentor and supervise ARVs clinics of health centers.

Mental Health:

We have inpatient and outpatient services in mental health unit. We treat different mental health conditions and we offer psychotherapy.

Dr BIZIMANA Emmanuel, head of department, IM specialist, before IM training, worked at Byumba DH as medical officer from 2014 to 2016; joined IM postgraduate program at UR-CMHS and  obtained MMed in IM in 2020; since them working as IM specialist at KRH. contact: 0788896152
