Pediatrics and Neonatology
We have two main units: Pediatrics and Neonatology.
Our services include:
We offer outpatient services from Monday to Friday from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Our pediatric ward can accommodate 25 children and we admit 70 patients per month on average.
The Neonatology unit is a 38-bed ward; among them 7 are Kangaroo-mother care (KMC) beds, 11 beds in Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), 4 beds in isolation room, 4 beds in admission room, and 14 beds in general neonatology ward. Our monthly bed occupancy averages 85 babies.
Severely-ill children are admitted through the hospital main emergency for stabilization before being moved to the pediatric ward. Some of them spend a few hours at emergency for close observation.
We also refer complex cases at Rwanda Military Hospital for specialized care which we cannot offer in our settings.
We are currently upgrading our Neonatology unit to become a regional center of excellence in care of babies.
The pediatric department will also have its own pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and pediatric emergency in the near future.
